Burmese teak (Tectona grandis) is regarded as one of the finest hardwoods in the world. Originating from Myanmar (formerly Burma), it is known for its exceptional durability, stability and aesthetic appeal.
It boasts natural oils that make it highly resistant to moisture, decay and insect damage, making it the gold standard for both interior and exterior applications.
Its rich, golden-brown colour and fine grain give it a timeless beauty that enhances various design styles.
Burmese teak is known for its exceptional durability due to its dense grain and high natural oil content. It is highly resistant to decay, rot and insect attacks, including termites. This makes it an ideal material for both indoor and outdoor applications, particularly in climates with high moisture or exposure to the elements.
Burmese teak has excellent dimensional stability, which makes it less prone to warping, cracking, or swelling with changes in temperature. The natural oils within the wood contribute to this stability by reducing moisture absorption, keeping the timber in good condition over time.
Burmese teak boasts a rich, golden-brown to dark brown colour with a fine, straight grain that deepens over time, enhancing its character and timeless beauty. Its smooth texture, natural sheen, and warm tone complement various materials, making it versatile for both modern and traditional designs.
Burmese teak’s high oil content naturally repels water, which helps reduce the need for regular maintenance. However, periodic cleaning and the application of a protective finish or oil can help maintain its appearance, especially when used in outdoor settings.
We ensure that all our Burmese teak complies with the latest Department of Agriculture and Fisheries legislation and adheres to the new Illegal Logging Prohibition Rules 2024.
